Spanish School in Benalmadena

Benalmadena

Benalmadena is a pleasant small city of about 50000 inhabitants located on the Costa del Sol, on a hill near the Mijas mountains, just 18 km away from the centre of Malaga (and 8 from its airport). In the past it was a typical andalusian fishing village with white houses; it then developed into a living seaside town that has preserved its ancient charm.

Its relatively small dimension allows tourists to enjoy a safe, quiet atmosphere that offers everything that a famous seaside town can give: shops, restaurants, cafés, hotels and a well-equipped sports centre, but also a casino and the famous Puerto Marina, where you can find a sailing and diving school.

Apart from its beautiful beaches, Benalmadena can rely on an interesting artistic and cultural heritage. Some of its finest examples are the odd Colomares Castle, built in the 80s to celebrate Christopher Columbus and the discovery of America; the sculpture of the Benalmadena girl, the symbol of the city, located in the Plaza de España; and Santo Domingo de Guzmán Church, from whose square you can have beautiful views of the city.

The historic centre of Benalmadena is undoubtedly its strong point. It is located at about 300 meters above sea level and it still preserves the characteristic atmosphere of the famous andalusian white villages: narrow streets and low houses with colourful patios. Thanks to the fact that cars are not allowed here, people can have pleasant walks in this area of the town.

Along the coast there is a beautiful seaside walk, one of the most interesting of the whole Mediterranean coast: it is a few kilometres long (between the Bil Bil castle and the harbour) and there you can admire beautiful mosaics made by local artists using different materials (wood, stone,…). After a walk in this part of the city, why not enjoy the peace of the Parque de la Paloma, the main green area in Benalmadena and one of the most frequented parks in the Costa del Sol (there is an artificial lake and also tracks)?
