The City

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands, which are set off the north-western coast of Africa. This island is called “The Island of Spring”, because of its year-round mild climate, and it is also the home of the volcano “El Teide”, the third largest one in the world.

The school is located in Tenerife second largest city, San Cristobal de La Laguna, which was established in 1496. It is situated in the northern part of the island and has got 125,000 inhabitants. Here the first University of Canaries was founded (nowadays it has a population of about 30,000 students). In La Laguna you can admire historical monuments, churches, traditional houses and some natural parks too; since it was the original capital of the island, it boasts a vast cultural heritage and it has been a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Centre since 1999.
