The City

Las Palmas is the capital city of Gran Canaria, Canary Islands.  Las Palmas is the biggest city in the Canary Islands with its 377 600 inhabitants.  Las Palmas is a very cosmopolitan city these days.  There are popular beaches (Las Canteras and Las Alcaravaneras), and a busy harbor (Puerto de Luz harbor).  Many people from all over the world live and work in Las Palmas.
The Carnival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is one of the main events in the city, and is not only well known in Spain, but also all over the world.  The main city Festival (Fiestas de San Juan) takes place in June, and is celebrating the foundation of the city.
According to a study by Thomas Whitmore at the Syracuse University (USA) the city of Las Palmas enjoys the best climate in the world.

Cons:

The Spanish in Las Palmas differs from the Castilian Spanish. The Canarians have their own accent, dialect, which might be harder to understund for a foreigner, or for a student of Spanish language.

How to get to Las Palmas

On your arrival you will find the airport buses at the exit of the International arrivals. They leave to Las Palmas at “hour:15 minutes” and “hour:50 minutes” and cost approximately 2,10 Euros. Both stop at the San Telmo bus station but only the first one (departing at “hour:15 minutes”) drives all the way to the Santa Catalina Bus Terminal. That is your final destination.  If you prefer to drive by taxi you will find these at the exit of the EU arrivals. A taxi from the airport costs about 25,00 Eur.
